SAFARI FOR THE SOUL WAS AN ARTFUL SUCCESS
|
Pictured in this photo: The presentation of a check by Laura Ponter,
founder of Spirits in Stone (left) to Dana Dornsife, president of Lazarex Cancer Foundation (right) while
gathered around the "Unity" sculpture by Chituwa Jemali, a metaphorical symbol for peace, understanding and
the harmony between all humankind. The representation of the three faces sharing one corporeal home is his
universal plea for a world in which a person's beliefs, origins, visage or gender should not constitute the
standard by which they are judged or treated.
On April 3rd 2008, over 100 compassionate supporters gathered at a warehouse in
Sonoma, California, to participate in "Safari for the Soul," a fundraising event benefiting Lazarex Cancer
Foundation and sponsored by Spirits in Stone, Sonoma, CA. Attendees enjoyed a wonderful sunny afternoon
complete with local wines from Esterlina Vineyards, Everett Ridge Winery, and Amista Vineyards; fabulous food
from Olive & Vine; and spectacular art from our host, Spirits in Stone.
This event was a unique collaboration between two organizations dedicated to the preservation
of the human mind, body and soul. Lazarex Cancer Foundation raised over $16,000 through art sales and donations,
which will be used to further their mission of providing support to end stage cancer patients and to search for
new cancer treatments. Spirits in Stone donated 30% of all art sales to Lazarex and used the remainder of the
proceeds to advance their own mission of helping the cultural artisans of Africa, the villages and their families
with vital programs.
